A 25-year-old Salt Lake City man was killed Thursday afternoon in a crash on Interstate 84 west of Wendell.
Idaho State Police say the man’s van rear-ended a semi near milepost 151. The driver of the semi was not injured. The crash remains under investigation.
Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador is appealing a federal court ruling that expanded exceptions to Idaho’s abortion ban.
The ruling allows abortions in certain situations to protect a pregnant patient’s health or prevent self-harm. Labrador is asking the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to reverse the decision.
Firefighters are making progress on the North Heglar Fire in eastern Cassia County.
The fire has burned approximately 1,844 acres, with no new growth reported. Crews continue strengthening control lines with assistance from two helicopters.
The fire was first reported Wednesday near Heglar Canyon.
The Idaho Land Board has approved a record $132.5 million in endowment distributions for fiscal year 2028 — an increase of 13 percent from the previous year.
Idaho public schools are expected to receive nearly $82 million. The funding comes from state endowment lands and investment returns.
Micron plans to invest $10 billion over the next decade in a new memory research laboratory in Boise.
The facility will focus on semiconductor manufacturing and next-generation artificial intelligence technology and could eventually host hundreds of researchers.
Micron expects to break ground on the project in 2027.
Twin Falls School District voters will head to the polls in November to decide whether to renew a $7.2 million supplemental levy.
District officials say the proposed levy would be a two-year renewal with no increase in the tax rate. The money helps fund daily operations and school safety, including security guards and school resource officers.
Idaho State Police will break ground Tuesday on a new $29 million forensic laboratory in Meridian.
The 20,000-square-foot facility will handle DNA analysis, fingerprints, digital forensics and ballistic evidence. Construction is expected to be completed in January 2028.
A federal judge is allowing the Stibnite mine project near Yellow Pine to move forward.
Perpetua Resources plans to produce gold at the site. Environmental groups have challenged the project over concerns involving water quality and fish habitat.
Production could begin in 2029.
High school football is back, with eight local teams kicking off Week Zero today.
The spotlight matchup features Filer traveling to Declo for a 7 p.m. kickoff. The Hornets won the teams’ last meeting 55-27 in 2023.

The city has secured $600,000 to redesign Baxter’s Park, with plans for new fenced areas, shelters, paved walkways, additional watering stations and improved accessibility.
