🚗 Deadly Crash on I-84 Near Wendell
A 25-year-old Salt Lake City man was killed Thursday afternoon in a crash on Interstate 84 west of Wendell.
Idaho State Police say the man’s van rear-ended a semi near milepost 151. The driver of the semi was not injured. The crash remains under investigation.
⚖️ Labrador Appeals Abortion Ruling
Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador is appealing a federal court ruling that expanded exceptions to Idaho’s abortion ban.
The ruling allows abortions in certain situations to protect a pregnant patient’s health or prevent self-harm. Labrador is asking the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to reverse the decision.
🔥 Progress Reported on North Heglar Fire
Firefighters are making progress on the North Heglar Fire in eastern Cassia County.
The fire has burned approximately 1,844 acres, with no new growth reported. Crews continue strengthening control lines with assistance from two helicopters.
The fire was first reported Wednesday near Heglar Canyon.
💰 Record Funding for Idaho Schools
The Idaho Land Board has approved a record $132.5 million in endowment distributions for fiscal year 2028 — an increase of 13 percent from the previous year.
Idaho public schools are expected to receive nearly $82 million. The funding comes from state endowment lands and investment returns.
💻 Micron Announces Major Boise Investment
Micron plans to invest $10 billion over the next decade in a new memory research laboratory in Boise.
The facility will focus on semiconductor manufacturing and next-generation artificial intelligence technology and could eventually host hundreds of researchers.
Micron expects to break ground on the project in 2027.
🗳️ Twin Falls Voters to Decide Supplemental Levy
Twin Falls School District voters will head to the polls in November to decide whether to renew a $7.2 million supplemental levy.
District officials say the proposed levy would be a two-year renewal with no increase in the tax rate. The money helps fund daily operations and school safety, including security guards and school resource officers.
🔬 New Idaho State Police Crime Lab Planned
Idaho State Police will break ground Tuesday on a new $29 million forensic laboratory in Meridian.
The 20,000-square-foot facility will handle DNA analysis, fingerprints, digital forensics and ballistic evidence. Construction is expected to be completed in January 2028.
⛏️ Federal Judge Allows Stibnite Mine Project to Move Forward
A federal judge is allowing the Stibnite mine project near Yellow Pine to move forward.
Perpetua Resources plans to produce gold at the site. Environmental groups have challenged the project over concerns involving water quality and fish habitat.
Production could begin in 2029.

High School Football Returns Tonight
High school football is back, with eight local teams kicking off Week Zero today.
The spotlight matchup features Filer traveling to Declo for a 7 p.m. kickoff. The Hornets won the teams’ last meeting 55-27 in 2023.
Both teams are expecting a physical battle in the trenches as Filer looks to make a statement against the traditionally strong Declo program.
🏈 Buhl Hosting Youth Football Camp
The Buhl Indians are hosting a youth football camp Saturday at Bowers Field.
Kids from kindergarten through eighth grade can work on their skills with Indians coaches and players. The three-hour camp begins at 9 a.m., costs $20 and includes drills along with a punt-pass-kick competition with prizes.
🐕 Baxter’s Park Getting a Major Makeover
Twin Falls’ only dedicated dog park is getting a major upgrade.
The city has secured $600,000 to redesign Baxter’s Park, with plans for new fenced areas, shelters, paved walkways, additional watering stations and improved accessibility.
The funding comes from the sale of the city’s old fire station property. Construction could begin as soon as next year.
🏐 CSI Volleyball Opens With Ranked Win
CSI Volleyball opened its season Thursday with an impressive ranked victory, sweeping 15th-ranked Indian Hills in three sets.
The 18th-ranked Golden Eagles were led by freshman Brinley Bybee, who recorded 11 kills.
CSI continues play today in the Iowa Western Tournament against Iowa Western and third-ranked Northeastern Junior College.
⚽ Boise State Soccer Extends Unbeaten Streak
Boise State soccer battled SMU to a scoreless draw Thursday night, extending the Broncos’ unbeaten streak to 17 matches.
Boise State outshot the Mustangs 12-8, while goalkeeper Ava de Leest made three saves.
The Broncos are now 2-0-and-1 on the season.
⚽ Idaho State Falls Despite Dominating Attack
Idaho State soccer fell to Cal State Northridge 1-0 Thursday night despite dominating the attack.
The Bengals outshot CSUN 28-12, marking their highest shot total in a match since 2017. The deciding goal came on a second-half penalty kick.
Idaho State continues its California trip Sunday against Cal State Bakersfield.
🏀 Vandals Building for Another Run
Idaho men’s basketball is looking ahead to another strong season after winning the 2026 Big Sky Championship and reaching the NCAA Tournament.
Head coach Alex Pribble returns his entire coaching staff. Luke Chavez has been promoted to assistant coach for player development, while Will Chipman and Anton Webb join the Vandals as graduate assistants.
